Teacups and the Lensbaby

One great thing about personal work is that you can just have fun. I bought three demitasse cups from my good friend Beth Evans-Ramos when she was downsizing from her 5000 sq. ft. house to a home less than half that size. She was a little nostalgic about letting these delicate beauties go (they belonged to her mom) and I promised her that I would use them for a photo and immortalize them. I also decided to embrace the Lensbaby. I’d been going back and forth on whether this lens was too gimmicky. But I was soooo wrong to even doubt it. These photos would have been far less intriguing and less magical without the Lensbaby. I’m sold on the Lensbaby now, and I have almost all the additional lenses and attachments. Beth, I hope I made you and your mom proud.

And lest you think I was shooting this in a fancy schmancy studio, here’s a peek of my set up in my living room.

My mom’s demitasse cups never looked so good as in these splendid shots of yours! I really appreciate the glimpse of the behind the scenes way you set it all up. Now I want a lensbaby!

These images are absolutely gorgeous! I always assumed the Lensbaby was too gimmicky as well. Maybe I should give it a try! Thanks for posting!

Thanks so much Jessica! I think one has to be careful not to overuse the Lensbaby, and it helps to really have a strong concept behind the application. I suppose that applies to most ideas though. I hope you get a chance to play with one.
